Everybody Hates Sausage is the fourth episode of the first season of Everybody Hates Chris.
Synopsis[]
Julius buys an entire crate of sausage after being dissatisfied with a vegetarian dinner, making it the family's meal for over a week. But Tonya dislikes sausage and refuses to eat, causing friction between her and Rochelle. Chris has to continually deal with bully Caruso. However, things get worse after false rumors spread that he beat up Caruso and has to deal with an unfair school administration believing it and punishing him for it.
Plot[]
The episode opens to Chris's narration explaining how he is the only black kid at Corleone Junior High School, showing that people are not fascinated by him but actually afraid of him, students and teachers alike. However, his best friend, Greg Wuliger, tells him people are afraid of him because of the fight he had with bully, Joey Caruso from the first episode. However, despite Caruso beating Chris up, rumors spread that it was Chris that was the one that beat him up. A bunch of kids are seen discussing the rumors all pointing at Chris being the one to win that school fight and make threats on Caruso, eventually making its way to the principal. Despite Chris not starting nor spreading the rumors, Caruso attacks him and shoves him in his locker before their principal Dr. Julius Raymond orders them both to come to his office.
Dr. Raymond lectures the boys, until Caruso uses the rumors against Chris to be let go and said Chris called him a cracker. Raymond, on the other hand, threatens Chris with detention if it happens again. Meanwhile, at home, Rochelle makes a vegetarian meal, much to Julius's dissatisfaction, who scours the fridge for meat and felt veggies without meat is not a complete meal. Rochelle could not buy any meat as she quit her job as she felt disrespected. In reality, it is shown that she felt comfortable enough to quit any of her jobs and mouth off on people about Julius having two jobs to stress she does not need to work and take it from anyone. Rochelle then proceeds to ask Chris to be home on time, so she can go to her office to pick up her check. Julius refuses to call her out on her wrongdoing and just rolled with it for tonight.
The next day at lunch, Chris vents his frustration to Greg about how Dr. Raymond believed Caruso. Caruso then hits him with a D battery and Chris gets angry and attempts to retaliate by tossing the battery right back to him, only to miss and break the school door window. When Dr. Raymond comes out, the students all point to him, sending him to detention. At home, Julius got a deal and bought a crate of sausage to last them a week. Back at school, Chris is in detention which is monitored by Ms. Milone. Chris kept getting in trouble by Milone by the other students who got him in detention for 30 minutes which had him get home late. Chris refused to tell his mom he got a detention and just said he missed his bus, Rochelle punishes him by making him mop the stairs while she goes to pick up her check.
At dinner, Tonya hates sausage and refuses to eat which frustrates Rochelle. Julius tries to convince Rochelle to just let Tonya eat her vegetables, Rochelle throws Julius's previous comment about veggies only not being a complete meal back at him. Rochelle orders Tonya she has to sit at the table until she eats her sausage, which she continually refuses, still at the table until 1 am. The next morning, Rochelle gives the kids their lunch, giving Tonya her sausage from dinner and orders Chris to be home on time as she could not pick up her check yesterday. It cuts to Chris telling Greg about him still having three days of detention, as the bell rings, Chris was outside the door heading in which makes Milone give him an extra 10 minutes. When Chris talked back, she added another 10 minutes, making a total of 20 minutes. However, he still does not get home on time, angering Rochelle once again.
At dinner, Tonya still refuses to eat sausage, and Rochelle attempts to get to her by planning to have cake for dessert. The rest of the family also starts getting sick of sausage. Julius tries to speak with Rochelle that Tonya has not eaten her dinner in two days, and they cannot starve her. However, Rochelle realized Julius miscounted a day, finding out that he snuck her a Peanut Butter sandwich on that first night. She then mouths off how Tonya refusing to eat will lead to her refusing to do what she is told and wearing whatever she will want and every decision she makes will eventually lead her to getting pregnant and Rochelle refuses to raise babies.
The next day at school, Dr. Raymond invites Chris to his office to talk. He makes racist assumptions of Chris being a crack baby or fatherless but realizes Chris is having a hard time and insist he tries to fit in. Chris then finally was able to explain the rumors are not true and he did not call Caruso a cracker, Raymond believes him and pays him a dollar for the info and tells him to stay out of trouble. Chris gets released from serving detention and quickly is met up with Greg. As they were exiting the school, Caruso and his gang was waiting for them. Greg quickly runs for it and Chris tries to reason with Caruso to leave him alone and willing to even tell everyone the rumors are not true, and that Caruso won the fight. However, Caruso continues to berate Chris and cannot be reasoned with, Chris then runs to make the bullies chase him to Raymond's office. Chris bangs the door startling Raymond; he then has a standoff and allows Caruso and the gang to assault him repeatedly with D batteries, only for Raymond to catch them in the act and give the bullies detention.
At the end of the day at home, Chris made it home on time and Rochelle got her check and Tonya still refuses to eat the sausage. Rochelle nicely convinces her to try it and that if she does not, she will never know. Each of the family members talk about how they did not like each other but now they do, convincing Tonya to try it and loving it. However, that is not what really happened. What really happened, Tonya was asked by Rochelle to just try it, but she still refused. Rochelle then snaps and is forcing the sausage onto Tonya. Julius picks up and protects Tonya while the boys try to hold Rochelle back. Narrator Chris said eventually Tonya did eat her sausage and to this day Rochelle still refuses to raise babies ending the episode.

- This is the second episode in the EHC series where the episode doesn't end with the “Everybody Hates Chris” hook. However, it is still played in before commercial break due to Chris getting put in detention.
- This is the first episode where Rochelle utters her trademark catch phrase "I don't need this; my man has two jobs!"
- This is also the first time Rochelle voices her reoccurring message of "I ain't raising no babies!"
